This is quite alright that Ukrainians and
UAE people are not like each other, also on cul-
tural level. However, we have to look for new
ways tomake Arabs interested inUkraine, and
Crimea, in particular. Resort and recreational
business is developing at fast pace there, and
Arabs traditionally have invested into this kind
of business around theworld. InUkraine, there
aremany original technologies, e.g. those
developed by PatonWelding Institute. These
technologies are beginning to enter theworld
market. As amedical worker, I can see them
used in health care sector. UAE have no access
to such technologies yet. These are exactly the
things that could be attractive for the Emirates.
And it’s not aboutmoney because there are
many peoplewho are capable of financing a
profitable project.

–And in this case also, Ukraine andRussia are
not number threeor five, they are at the top. Yes,
Ukrainians andRussians have toget prepared to
this project and cooperate and combine their
technologies. Nobodydoubts the fact that these
countries are leaders in this sphere.
InUkraine andRussia, there aremany young
peoplewho speak English, Frenchof German
andwhograduated from the sameuniversi-
ties as Arab youths. And again, we are coming
back to the contacts issue– if people studied in
CambridgeorOxford together, theyhave some-
thing in common.
The fact that Ukraine owns innovative
technologies (like the space technologieswe
just discussed) is a proven fact. Inorder to com-
municate successfullywith theArabworld,
it is necessary to cooperatewithArabswho
graduated from Europeanuniversities. I have
nodoubts that UAE andUkraine are going to
become active partners, since there is a huge
potential in their relations.
–CanEuropeanUnionhelpdevelop rela-
tionshipsbetweenUAEandUkraine?
– Latest international developments indicate
that theUSAbeganpayingmore attention to
the EU. Consider the last conflicts in Lebanon:
the EuropeanUnionparticipated actively in the
peacemaking activities and thiswas not a ran-
domoccurrence. EuropeanUnionhas serious
influence in theworld and is capableof promot-
ing its technologies.
If todayUkraine engages on a joint pro-
gramwith the EU (space program is a priority).
EuropeanUnionwouldbewilling to support
Ukrainianbusiness andUkrainian technologies.
Ukraine just has tobemore active anddeclare
its presence. Therefore, from a global point of
view, Europe could support Ukraine, alsoon the
territory of UAE.
