forumwas extremelyuseful. On the
onehand, touse suchpossibility
for self–adaptation to the forum
problems, andon theother hand,
to refreshownmodest knowledge
of economicquestions and
receivenew information about
modern tendencies of economical
development in contemporary
globalizedworld. The forumgave
possibility tomeetwithmyold
acquaintances, establish contacts
withnewpeople, and, in addition,
to communicateusefully.
By theway, in the courseof
such contacts, great interestwas
shown inUkraine. This interest
meant an intention todevelop
cooperation andobtainmore
information about economical
situation, prospects of country
development, organizationof
its banking system, financial and
investment policy. Suchmeetings
tookplacewith the representatives
of the countries ofMiddle East,
Asian–Pacific region, USA and
Europe.
I havehadpleasant impression
of themeetingwithMadeleine
Albright. Itwas pleasant for both
of us to remember the times of
work in theUN as representatives
of our countries and, of course, as
formerministers of foreign affairs.
The subject of the conversation
was the theme related to the
activityof theUN as theorganof
collective security, its investment
possibilities, strugglewithnew
challenges and threats, etc. The
former Secretaryof State was
interested in all that happens in
Ukraine, especially after theOrange
Revolution. By theway, Madeleine
Albright is not indifferent toour
Ambassador of Ukraine, excellent
specialist inArabic culturebyhis
professional training–Yevgen
Mykytenko. It is extremely
important from thepoint of view
of knowledgeof particularities of
a region, traditions and cultureof
Arabianpeoples. I know that in
the courseof the last years there
is dynamicgrowthof our relations:
the trade volume is increasing
significantly, the contacts between
the representatives of Ukraine
and theUnitedArab Emirates
becamemore frequent, the tourist
exchange is growing, interesting
round tables and conferences on
economical and trade issues are
held. Moreover, Ukraineparticipates
in various exhibitions, represents
withdignity the samples of its
products inwell–known air shows.
It is hard to count everything, but
themain thing that the relations
between two countries are
developing increasingly. And this
means that intergovernmental
relations arepromising.
–Youwere invitedand
participated ineconomic
forum “Leaders inDubai
–2005”.Whatareyour
impressionsof thisevent?
–You know, I hadoccasion to
participate inmany international
forums, including inDavos, in
the forum “CranMontana”, not
tomentionpolitical conferences,
seminars,meetings, etc. However,
if to say about themeeting in
Dubai, one cannot but note, first
of all, representativenature and
large scaleof this event. The forum
gatheredwell–knownpeople from
all over theworld. Amongmain
speakerswas the former President
of USABill Clinton, thePresident of
the SouthAfricanRepublic Frederic
deClerc, thePrimeMinister of
MalaysiaMakhatir BinMohammad,
the Secretaryof State Madeleine
Albright, aswell as the leaders of
theworldbusiness, well–known
companies andnon–governmental
organizations. Itwas interesting for
me to listen tomany speakers, who
toucheduponpressingproblems
country for a long ago, shewishes
Ukraineprosperity, democratic
development and she is ready
inher new capacity to continue
cooperation. As thePresident of
theNational Democratic Institute
on international affairs, she remains
very attentive todemocratic
processes inpost–soviet area
and shewould likedemocratic
andeconomical reforms tobe
successfully realized inUkraine.
To sayon thewhole about
the forumof the leaders inDubai,
I would like tonote that such
economicmeetings havegreat
importance for theeconomists.
It is a kindofwell of knowledge
where the latest informationon
economical situation in theworld is
received andnecessary experience
obtained, which is highlyuseful for
eachparticipant representinghis
country, company, concern, firm,
brandor organization.
–Mr. Zlenko, I havean
impression thatyouhavea
kindof special attitude to the
Gulf region. Is it true?
–Yes, it quite so. Bynature, I
am creator, and I likeeverything
that is being createdwith such
constructivepathos. And if
somewhere appears something
special that does not leaveme
indifferent, I amdelightedwith
that andgiveobjective appraisal of
what is happening, expressing at
the same timemy emotions. It is a
simplehumanphilosophy. Isn’t it? If
the countries of the
Middle Eastern regionwith their a
bitmore than thirty–year history
of independent development pass
such a creativewayof formation,
there is nothingelse left but to
admire. This example isworthyof
imitation.
