I shouldnote that Ukrainian
representativeswere always
welcomeguests, whichgave
possibility to carryout constructive
negotiations and achievemutually
acceptable agreements.

Whatmostofall remained in
yourmemory in theEmirates
or, say,madeanunforgettable
impressiononyou?
–Every time I come to this
country, I discover formyself
somethingnew andunforgettable.
One is staggeredwith thegrowing
scaleof building industry. The
UnitedArab Emirates, and in
particular, Dubai, experience real
buildingboom. The construction
pace andoriginalityof architectural
ideas catchone’s eye. The country is
a flourishingmegapolis, it develops
Needless to say that the
subjectsofnegotiationwere
questionsof international
policy, of current importance,
of course, at thatmoment,
andbeingof interest foreach
of theparties. Is itpossible
to say that thepositionsof
Ukraineand the Gulf countries
coincidedorwere similar?
–First of all, I would like to say
thatmy colleagues and I appreciate
all thatwemade.Weestablished
very friendly relations thatwere
basedon confidence anddeep
respect. I had agreat honour to
sign correspondingprotocols
onestablishment of diplomatic
relationswith themajorityof the
countries of this region. Since at
that period theperspectives of
relations betweenUkraine and
these states just became toopen,
naturally, thedocuments signed
hadhistorical significance and the
creditwas given inparticular for
that personalitywhowas at the
origins of international relations.
I had tomeetwithmy
colleagues from theMiddle East
countries and at the sessions of
UN General Assembly. It is an
excellent place formeetings and
negotiations. As amatter of fact,
in theheadquarters of theWorld
Forum the first contactswere
quite rapidly. It is praiseworthy
that theuniqueoffers createthe
demand, they contribute to
investments into various spheres.
And successful functioningof
Jebel Ali FreeZone deserves
particular attention–we canuse
this experience for our own free
economic zones, which are tobe
restored inUkraine. I hope that the
agreement signed in
December 2005between Free
EconomicZone Jebel Ali and
Ukrainian company Investment
andPrivatizationAssistance Fund
will be veryuseful in the senseof
orientation to advanced standards
used in thework of Free Economic
Zones of theArab Emirates
and, what is not less important
–organizationof directwork of our
economical zones basedon these
standards.
I havehad anoccasion to
make somedistance in ahelicopter
– fromAbuDabi to the residence
of the latePresident of theUnited
Arab Emirates. This short flight
allowedme to take a closer look at
the country andmake sureonce
morehow rapidly it is developing,
introducing themostmodern
technologies intoproduction and
developingnewdesert territories
for thewelfareof ownpeople.
Contactswith the
representatives of the Emirates
andgrowingwork experienceof
our specialists in this direction
convinceof the fact that the
number of positive tendencies in
bilateral relations aimed atmutually
beneficial interests is increasing.
