RUSSIAN EMIRATES
OnNovember 28–29, 2005 in
theUnitedArabEmirates, the
summit
“Leaders inDubai –2005”
tookplace. This is the second
economical forum inDubai.
By its scope andproblems discussed aswell
as byquantityof persons invited to this annual
meeting the summit is the analogueof the
forum inDavos, wherewell–knownpoliticians,
economists andbusinessmen aregathered. For
the first time in this forum inDubai participated
well–knowndiplomat, Minister of ForeignAffairs
of Ukraine (1990–1994) and (2000–2003), now
thepresident of the Foundation for Support of
International Cooperationof UkraineMr. Anatoliy
Zlenko. Earlier he repeatedlymadeofficial visits
to the countries of the Gulf, including to the
UnitedArab Emirates. The formerMinister of
ForeignAffairs of Ukraine sharedhis impressions
onparticipation in the summit “Leaders inDubai
–2005”with the correspondent of ourmagazine.
–Mr.Minister, as farasweknow, you
arenot rareguestboth in theUnitedArab
Emiratesand inother countriesof theGulf,
whereyouhavebeenmore thanoncewith
thevisitsas theMinisterof ForeignAffairs
ofUkraine. Iwould like toknowwhat the
plansofUkraineconcerning this regionare
andwhat itsmotivesare for
representing its interests in the
countriesof theGulf?
–To say frankly, our interests
are conditioned, first of all, by the
necessityof establishment and
development ofmutuallybeneficial
cooperationwith these countries in
themost various fields. The spheres
of commercial andeconomical,
scientific and technical and
humanitarian collaborationdeserve
particular attention. Establishment
of diplomatic relationswith these
states and soonopeningof our
diplomaticmissions promoted
solutionofmanypractical
questions that areof real interest
both for Arabian andUkrainian side.
The visits of thePresident,
PrimeMinister, Minister of Foreign
Affairs andother high–ranking
official persons of Ukraine
became landmarks inpromotion
of interests of our state in this
region. Inparticular, these visits
gave a significant incentive to
development of bilateral relations
and their gradual transformation
into friendly andpartnership
relations.
It is nice tomention the fact
that from the verybeginning
of political contacts of our
representatives the leaders of this
region showed keen interest in
establishment of collaboration
withUkraine. Obviously, there is
nonecessity to attract attention
todescriptionof specific fields. In
general, wemay sat that during
these yearsUkrainebecame
welcome country, the interest
in it is constantlygrowing, the
evidenceofwhich is an annual
increaseof trade turnover, there is
diversificationof various spheres
of collaboration, permanent
diplomaticdialogue.
We alsomay assert that the
potential of Ukraine in the fields of
industry, science andengineering,
in farming industry alwayswereof
interest for these countries. At the
same time, theexperienceof the
Gulf states in anumber of fields
of development, theirwealthof
energy carriers cannot but attract
attention. Inotherwords,mutual
interest is thebasis formaintenance
anddevelopment of our relations.
–Whenyouhavebeen
visiting thesecountries, you
had tonegotiateonawide
rangeofquestions, including
international problems.
