Wehavenow some500 trainees inour
club; 30of thempermanentlyparticipate in
the international competitions indifferent
martial arts like kick-boxing, karate, Thai boxing,
pankration, taekwondo, sambo, judo.
This is a verygood index; however, it does
notmean that tomorrowwe shall work only
with thosewhobringmedals into the club.
Duringmy 30-year career, I havenever denied
a kidwhowanted to trainwithus. I donot
recognize the term “non-prospective”. Forme
the fact thatmany andmanyboys, after they
have trainedwithus, became strong andquick
andobtained the ability to take adecision in
the situationwheremost peoplewould react
in apanickyway, is not less important than the
victories of those youngsterswho inour club
reached the level of professional sportsmen.
By theway, how longwill it take toprepare
asportsmanable to takepart in the fighting
without rules?
This question could not be answered in
the formal way. What I can tell you is that
youwould need years. And if you speak
about the preparation for some specific
competition, it is evident you cannot do
it in several days. Somebodywould need
amonth, somebody –more. In any case,
in order to secure a high level of the
competition form, a careful organizational
and sporting preparation is necessary.
Today,many speakabout doping in
the sport and specialwaysof nutrition, in
order to saturate thebody with substances
necessary for sportingachievements.What is
your opinionabout it?
Mostpeople,whogo in for sport, know
that the famousGreekmathematicianPifagor
wasoneof themost famouschampionsof
theancient times.Weknow thePifagor’s
theorem from the school.However, his
postulateswith regard to theupbringingof
a fighter are less known. He stated that it is
indispensable todevelop in the fighternot
onlyphysical but alsomoral qualities, asa
pledgeof futurevictories. It iswell known that
thepractice is thebestproof of the theory;
notonly remainedPifagor for 15years the
best fighter, buthisdisciplebecame6-fold
Olympicchampion inwrestling.
Somebodymay claim that it is
impossible to compare the ecology of
theAncient Greecewithour today’s
environment. The intensity and
requirements have changed. However,
what is themaindistinctionbetween the
hand-to-hand fighting and those events
where there are required elements or time
framework?Well, theDutch ice-skaters
whowere depictedby Breygel couldnot
even imagine that it wouldbe possible
in the 20th century toperform the 4-turn
jump. And the hand-to-hand fighting,
irrespective of the technique, remains a
fight between twomen. Inorder to learn
how towin, it is not enough to control
your body. Will you accept it or not, the
victory over anopponent is a victory
over own fear. And this is not an
exaggeration. Any chemical invasion
wouldnot relieve aman from the
fear tobe beaten if hewouldnot
learn to fight and evaluate the
opponent in the proper way.
P.S.
InNovember 2007, the sportsman
of theKievanclub“Hermes”E. Golovin
andhis coachF. Seredyukhave
received the invitationof theThai
King to takepart in the international
competition in theThai boxingentitled
“King’sCup”. Thereareoptimistic
forecastswith regard to thepotential
successof theKievan fighter in this
competitionwhich seem tobe justified
as E. Golovin (weight categoryup
to91 kg) haswon in2007 the first
placeat theclubworldkick-boxing
championship. In the same tournament,
theclubcolleagueof E. Golovin–O.
Kalinichenko– (weight categoryup to
81kg) alsobecameawinner.
Among the sportsmen of
“Hermes”– international medal
winners of 2007 there are
also European champions –V.
Opanasenko (weight category up to
77 kg) has won the 1st place at the
Europe championship inGodzu-ru
karate, in the full contact division.
