Somemay say that itmeans:
“establishingclose tieswith key
specialistsof government structures,
includingdecision-makersor people
influencingdecision-making”. Another
possibleoptionwouldbe: “providing
theawarenessof your company in
government agencies”. However, the
most precise formulation reflecting
theessenceof government relations
wouldbe thedefinitionof goalsof such
activities. Inparticular,weare talking
about representationof theorganization’s
interests ingovernment agencies. Some
largeUkrainiancompanieshavealready
used servicesof global legal firms
focusingongovernment relations and
having representativeoffices inEurope
and theUS for resolutionof important
issuesof international cooperation.
Looking into theprospectsofUkraine
–UAEcooperation, it isnecessary to
emphasize the fact that professional
andefficient presentationofUkrainian
companies at the top level inUkraine
andUAE is the first andmost important
step towards long-termcooperation. In
this context,wewould like tounderscore
that at this time there is awell developed
infrastructure inexistencewithgood
experience in this field.
Government relations in reality
OnMay 30, 2005, upon solicitation from
theGeneral Director of Dubai Chamber of
Commerce and IndustryMr. AlMutaiwi and
upon approval of theCourt of HisHighness
theRuler of Dubai, the EconomicsDepartment
of Dubai registered the first andonlyUkrainian
TradeCenter inGulf countries (UTC).
The veryhistoryof creationof Ukrainian
TradeCenter inDubai is rather typical because
it has reputable referrals fromgovernment
structures of UAE that looked approvingly at
thepossibilityof establishment of theUTC, the
activities ofwhich is focusedon increaseof
political andeconomical influenceof Ukraine
in theGulf countries.
OnUkrainian side, theTradeCenter
was establishedwith the assistance from
theMinistryof Economyof Ukraine and
theChamber of Commerce and Industry
of Ukraine, with additional support from
the Embassyof Ukraine in theUAE. This
guaranteedhigh representation level of the
organization andover timehadpositiveeffect
duringorganizationof negotiations and
concluding contracts on supplyof Ukrainian
goods. By theway, todayUkrainianTrade
Center represents the interests of TheChamber
of Commerce and Industryof Ukraine and
all its 27 regional representativeoffices. Also
UkraineTradeCenter is the sponsor of the
informational project “Ukraine-Emirates:
Property Business Investments”, which is the
part of “Business Emirates”magazine. Among
prominent readers of “Business Emirates”
magazine, which contains the articles both
inRussian and English languages, are top-
brackets ofmanagement in theUAE
andUkraine, includingChamber of
Commerce and Industrywith its 27
branches in the regions all over Ukraine;
more than7.000managers of top
Ukrainian companies in the sphere
ofmetallurgy, chemical,mechanical,
agricultural, civil construction and
oil industries;members of Ukrainian
Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
