MykolaAzarovproposedholding anextended
forum inUAE inNovember –December, 2006,
inorder topresent Ukraine’s capabilities to
potential investors from the Emirates. Mykola
Azarovbelieves thatworking sections of the
forum should reflect themost promising spheres
of cooperationbetweenUkraine andUAE: 1)
space and aircraft design; 2) seaports andport
economy; 3)modernization inorder tobuild
the capacities of Ukrainian cement plants or
construct new cement plant inUAE and4)
telecommunications.
According toM.Azarov,Ukraine is interested in
the increaseanddiversificationof tradewithUAE
andhas the intentionofusing theemirateswith their
super-modern transportation infrastructureasapoint
forpromotionofUkrainiangoodson themarkets
ofGulf andAfricancountries.AlMutaiwi, at the
same time, toldabout thesuccessful experienceof
functioningof16 freeeconomiczones inUAE (with
annual turnoverexceeding25billionUSD) and the
“openeconomy”policyused in theEmirates.
General Director ofDubai Chamber of
Commerce supported theproposal ofMykola
Azarovwith regard tobilateral economic forum in
UAEandalso said itwouldbe logical tocontinue
meetingsbetweenUAEandUkrainebusinessmen,
for example inCrimea, inMay2007, so thatUAE
investors could takea look at the recreational
projectsof the region sinceEmirates’business elite
is interested in suchprojects.
At the timeof themeeting, the issue
of beginningof theoperationof two-party
intergovernmental commissionon trade and
economic cooperationwas raised. Theparties
alsodiscussedpossibilities of establishing
full-fledgeUkraine–UAEBusiness Council
operations. At this time, only theUkrainianpart
of theCouncil has been formed. Representatives
of bothparties have to sign theCouncil’s Charter
and form its Emirate’s part. Council operations
would allow thebusinessmenof both countries
tohavemore active cooperation andensure
moreprompt resolutionof issues standing in the
wayofmutually fruitful economic cooperation.
During thenegotiations, Ukraine’s First
Deputy PrimeMinisterMykolaAzarov saidhe
was convinced that active cooperationbetween
thegovernment officials andbusinessmenof the
two countries aregoing todrive the cooperation
between the to countries in anew level
complyingwith realities of theworldeconomy.
At the conclusionof themeeting, General
Director of Dubai Chamber of CommerceAl
Mutaiwi handed toUkraine’s First Deputy Prime
MinisterMykolaAzarov the invitationonbehalf
of HisHighness SheikhMohammedBinRashidAl
Maktoum, UAEVice-President, PrimeMinister and
Ruler of Dubai to visit the Emirates.
Themeetingof theGeneral Director of Dubai
Chamber of Commercewith theHeadof the
StateProperty FundValentina Semenyukwas just
as productive. StateProperty Fund continues the
practiceof openprivatization andhas submitted
to theParliament the list of facilities subject to
privatization in thenext year. This list includes not
only state-ownedbut also community-owned
