Business Emirates # 10 (September - October 2006) - page 63

Thenext step forward towards partnership
relationswas representedby thenegotiations
between thePresident of Ukraine’s CCI Sergey
Skripchenko andGeneral Director of UAE’s CCI Al
Mutaiwi September 18. Themeetingwas friendly
andproductive: heads of CCIs of Ukraine and
UAEdiscussed anumber of vital issues. At the
endof thenegotiations, AlMutaiwi indicated
that despite the short termof the visit, the
things they saw inUkraine really impressed the
UAEdelegation, which included theHeadof
Dubai CCI Business, Commerce and Industry
Development Department SultanM. Luta.
Mr. AlMutaiwi was satisfiedwithhis
meetings inUkrainewhereheexchanged
opinions on various aspects of trade and
economic cooperationbetween the two
countries. Inorder to continue thenegotiations,
General Director of Dubai CCI AlMutaiwi invited
President of Ukraine’s CCI Sergey Skripchenko to
visit Emirates andDubai inparticular at any time
of his convenience.
During all themeetings inUkraine, Al
Mutaiwi underscoredonnumerous occasions
that Dubai CCI has developedgood and
efficient relationshipswithUkrainianTrade
Center. Actually, AlMutaiwi came toKyivupon
the invitation sent tohimbyUTC andCCI of
Ukraine. Therefore, itwas quite logical that UTC
employees and, inparticular, Sergey Pachkovskiy,
theGeneral Director of UTC took careof the
logistics of the Emiratedelegation’s visit and
supported them throughout their stay. Dubai CCI
has the intentionof organizing the cooperation
withUkrainianbusinesses throughUTC, rather
than trying to communicatewithdifferent
companies on individual basis.
UkrainianTradeCenter inDubai contributes
seriously to thepromotionof Ukrainianproducts
on the richmarket of UAE. The results of their
efforts areobvious, primarily, through the annual
increaseof commodity turnover between the
two countries. According to theofficial statistics,
over the first sixmonths of 2006, commodity
turnover betweenUkraine andUAE equaled
172.7millionUSdollars, which is $3.5million
more thanover the sameperiod in2005 ($169.2
million). Export equaled163.4millionUSdollars
and import –9.2millionUSdollars.
However, trade and economic potential
of Ukraine andUAE is not used fully yet. Until
this time, themost popular products inUAE
were ferrousmetals and productsmade of
suchmetals. They contributed to 80-90% of
the entire Ukrainian export. According to
the analysis of trade relationships over the
