By theway, only inKiev there aremore than
1500people agedbetween4 an60 yearswho
practiceWushuon the regular base. 50 trainees
have already achieved the level of thehighest
sport standards. ThenationalWushu selection
permanently attends the European andWorld
championshipswhich are conductedevery
2 years andhas alreadywonhundreds of the
most prestigiousmedals. TheUkrainianWushu
Federationunites 23 regional organizations
and alsoorganizations inKiev, Sebastopol and
Crimea. But it is impossible to find anexact
figureof thosepeoplewho attenddifferent
Wushu sections, clubs, youth sports schools
etc. –probably several hundred thousand. But
where comes thismass enthusiasm for this sport
from?Wushu seems totally alien to the country’s
mentality –where isUkraine andwhere is China
with its unique visionof theworld?
We arenot going toexplore thehistory
ofWushu; instead, we shall look intoour own
historywhichwe sometimes know (what a
shame!) quite superficially.
However, as thepractice and timehave
shown, it is impossible toeradicate thegenetic
memoryof thepeople. Ifwe agreewith the
presumption that amartial hopak has been a
peculiar CossackWushu, itwouldbequite
understandablewhy theorientalmartial arts
havebeeneasily adopted inUkraine and
become sopopular.
On theother hand, if therewouldnot have
been the scientific andpractical foundation,
wherewould the rising interest forWushu in
Ukraine come from? The results of scientific
research and analysis of statisticalmaterials testify
thatWushuhelps todivert the adolescents from
deviant behaviour.
Some researchers suppose that the reason
for an aggressive, loose anddeviant behaviour
of the adolescents is a consequenceof the
orientation for thewesternbehavioralmodels
as approvedbehavioral standards. At the same
time, western values not always correspondwith
valueorientations of theArabian, Ukrainianor
Russian society. This fact result in increase, with
each year, of the criminalizationof the youth,
of different deviations in behaviour, rise in the
aggressiveness.
